The advanced bassoon institute will feature master classes, advanced reed making sessions and clinics, and an evening chamber music and solo performance. The enrollment is limited to 12, and each of the participants in the advanced course will play three times in master classes, once for each of the three artist faculty members. All master classes and clinics will address advanced performing techniques and will include repertoire the participants have prepared in advance. A pianist will be provided for accompanied repertoire. Classes will also be given on orchestral excerpts and solo repertoire.
During this one-week program, students will participate in the following:
- Master classes
- Study of orchestral excerpts
- Individual practice/ ensemble rehearsals
- Large bassoon ensemble
- Attend evening performances

- Sonata repertoire
- Milde concert studies
- Orchestral excerpts

Additional Opportunities
Students interested in a multi-week, ensemble-based program are invited to also apply to the high school summer orchestra and wind symphony program, which begins immediately after this one-week institute.
Interlochen is also home to the Arts Academy boarding high school, which offers a bassoon major for students in grades 9-12, as well as a post-graduate year.
