High School Advanced Bassoon Institute (one week)

The advanced bassoon institute is an outstanding summer program for experienced young players. You will spend a week of intensive study with a distinguished faculty of performers and educators. With an enrollment limit of 12, you'll get personalized instruction and the opportunity to perform in master classes.

Below are examples of past instructors; new faculty will be announced in spring.

June 18, 2016 to June 24, 2016
Tuition: $1,150
Age range: Students currently in grades 9-12

The goal of advanced bassoon institute is to prepare you for further study at the college or conservatory level. All master classes and clinics will address advanced performing techniques, and will include repertoire you have prepared in advance (a pianist will be provided for accompanied repertoire). Students will also study orchestral excerpts and solo pieces.

Master classes include:

  • Concerto repertoire
  • Sonata repertoire
  • Milde concert studies

In reed making sessions, you will learn how to improve your reed scraping technique.

In addition, you will participate in the large bassoon ensemble and have practice time and ensemble rehearsals. You will also attend inspiring performances presented by our accomplished faculty.

Audition Requirements

Please submit the following three selections:

Audio or video file #1: Weber – Concerto in F Movement 1 exposition

Audio or video file #2: Milde – Concert Study No. 29

Audio or video file #3: Ravel – Bolero

Applicants to the advanced bassoon institute who are not accepted will be offered admission to the bassoon institute.
