The 6-Week Orchestral Program: June 23-August 6, 2018

With new repertoire each week, three hours of orchestral rehearsal each day, and six performances throughout the summer, participants will experience what it’s like to be a part of a professional ensemble. Two hours a day of chamber music include small ensemble rehearsal and coaching, student performances, special topics, master classes and faculty performances. Participants will also have weekly private lessons with one of our outstanding faculty members, many of whom hold advanced degrees in music, teach at the college level, and/or perform in professional symphony orchestras.

Participants will also have the potential to study with concertmasters who attend each rehearsal and offer advice on both technical and artistic aspects of performance.

The 2018 Valade Concertmasters include:

  • Martin Chalifour of the Los Angeles Philharmonic
  • Dennis Kim of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra
  • Celeste Golden Boyer of the Saint Louis Symphony
  • David Coucheron of Atlanta Symphony Orchestra; Margaret Batjer of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra
  • Jeff Thayer of the San Diego Symphony.

Elective class options allow participants to study another art form, or choose from a variety of classes in the music department, including Composition, Alexander Technique, Music Theory, Computer Music, Jazz, Orchestration, Music Literature, Yoga, and more.
