High School Rock/Pop Summer Program

This program is your opportunity to explore the entire process of staging a full rock and pop show. You'll work with other dedicated musicians and learn how to select material, create transcriptions, arrange charts, rehearse, and perform on stage. In fact, the public concert at the program’s end is one of Interlochen’s most popular student events. Students work on an original song during the session, and the faculty will choose one of the originals for performance in the final concert.

Program length: 3 weeks
Program dates:
June 27, 2020 to July 18, 2020
Tuition: $6,100
Age range: Students currently in grades 9-12

Throughout the program, students perform together in bands, and everyone--instrumentalists and vocalists--is encouraged to sing.

Additionally, you will have theory classes that include ear-training, transcription, form, song composition, and the history of rock music.

By the end of the program, you will be able to:

  • Apply band etiquette (interpersonal and musical ensemble skills)
  • Perform in a band
  • Apply musicianship skills 

Prerequisites

Ability to read music or chord charts (music will not be written in tablature).

Audition Requirements

Submit one to three video recordings of work that best represents you as an artist at this time. If you are performing in an ensemble, please make sure you are clearly highlighted.
