This program is your opportunity to explore the entire process of staging a full rock and pop show. You'll work with other dedicated musicians and learn how to select material, create transcriptions, arrange charts, rehearse, and perform on stage. In fact, the public concert at the program’s end is one of Interlochen’s most popular student events. Students work on an original song during the session, and the faculty will choose one of the originals for performance in the final concert.
Throughout the program, students perform together in bands, and everyone--instrumentalists and vocalists--is encouraged to sing.
Additionally, you will have theory classes that include ear-training, transcription, form, song composition, and the history of rock music.
By the end of the program, you will be able to:
- Apply band etiquette (interpersonal and musical ensemble skills)
- Perform in a band
- Apply musicianship skills
