The advanced clarinet institute is an outstanding summer program for the serious, experienced clarinetist. This one-week program provides students with the opportunity to work with internationally recognized clarinetists. With an enrollment limit of 18, the focus is on personalized instruction in master classes, coachings and workshops. Students also attend faculty performances and are afforded ample individual practice time.

Master classes encompass both the art and craft of advanced clarinet playing and cover topics such as expression, tone, technique, articulation, and including the following:

  • Solo repertoire, including concerti, sonatas, other solo works from the standard literature (collaborative pianist provided for accompanied works)
  • Orchestral excerpts
  • Etudes

Additional offerings include:

  • Workshops on college auditions, practice techniques, and historical clarinets
  • Alexander technique for clarinetists class
  • 30-min private lessons

Audition Requirements

1. Two works of contrasting style (can be two contrasting movements of the same work or two contrasting movements from different works). Accompaniment strongly encouraged.

2. Two contrasting orchestral excerpts of your choice

Applicants who submit an audition for the advanced clarinet institute may also be considered for the clarinet institute.
