Immerse yourself in the world of poetry and fiction during our three-week Creative Writing program for grades 6-9. Guided by teachers who are also professional writers, you will develop a portfolio of poems and stories, and learn how to give and receive constructive feedback.
During the three-week session, students spend their days in The Writing House, a beautiful and inspiring space built specifically to meet the needs of young writers. View 360-degree virtual tour.
Our on-campus offerings this summer draw inspiration from an old Shaker aphorism, "To master one craft, apprentice yourself to three." This summer, students will take daily classes in fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and playwriting. Part of the day will also be given to supervised open writing time, and students will have the chance to workshop up to two full pieces in two of the above genres of their choice. Your writing classes will include guided reading and writing assignments, discussion, and critique. Small class sizes and individualized mentorship provide opportunities to work closely with instructors and other students who share your passion for writing.
Students will be given notebooks and pencils. Laptops are optional. iPads are not recommended.
How to Apply
This program does not require a portfolio. It enrolls on a first-come, first-served basis, so early application is advised. Apply online.
