About Timothy

Violinist Timothy Shiu is an active chamber musician and recitalist and has concertized extensively throughout the United States, as well as in Europe, Asia, and South America. Notable collaborations include performances with members of the Guarneri, Muir, and Borromeo String Quartets, as well as of the Nash Ensemble of London.

Currently a member of the Ceruti String Quartet, he was also formerly a founding member of the Maia Quartet, with whom he taught for five years in Interlochen's Advanced String Quartet Intensive before he joined the Violin faculty in 2006.

Mr. Shiu is Associate Professor of Violin at the University of Memphis and has previously taught at the University of Iowa and at the Peabody Conservatory.

He received his principal training from the Cleveland Institute of Music and Yale University and has held post-graduate fellowships at the Juilliard School and Peabody Conservatory. His major teachers include Donald Weilerstein, Victor Danchenko, Louise Behrend, Sidney Harth, and the late Joseph Fuchs.
