Sarah Bates-Kennard is a freelance oboist based in Miami, Florida, returning for her second summer as the Teaching Assistant for the Oboe Institute week. Last summer, she was a Guest Artist at the Saarburg International Music Festival and School. Sarah has served as the Principal Oboist of the Temple Symphony Orchestra in Texas and has appeared as guest oboist with the Phoenix Symphony, Austin Symphony Orchestra, and the South Florida Symphony. She is a founding member of the Austin Baroque Orchestra, a period instrument group now in its eighth season, where she plays baroque oboe, classical oboe, recorder, shawm, and traverso. Sarah is a Doctoral candidate in Oboe Performance at Arizona State University and holds a Master's degree in Oboe Performance from the University of Texas at Austin and a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Youngstown State University. Her primary oboe teachers are Martin Schuring and Rebecca Henderson.
