About Richard

Richard Buchanan is an actor, educator, and director originally hailing from the land of pleasant living, currently residing in Cincinnati, Ohio. When he is not teaching or directing at Mount St. Joseph University you can often find his clown doctor persona, Dr. Giacomo, strolling the halls of Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.

Some of his favorite professional credits include Sam/Juliet in Shakespeare in Love at the Baltimore Center Stage/Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park; Stanley in Brighton Beach Memoirs (Human Race Theatre); and Ensemble in Jane Eyre (CPIP). He has performed internationally in Frankfurt, Germany with the Ensemble Aimee Rose in an adaptation of Faust titled Faust: Sweet Seduction.

He has taught extensively as a teaching artist for the Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park. He is a proud member of the 2016-2017 Bruce E. Coyle Acting Intern Company at the Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park and is an active EMC of Actor’s Equity Association.

He graduated with a Master of Fine Arts from the Professional Actor Training Program at Purdue University and a Bachelor of Science from Towson University.

I believe the best learning begins with the spirit of play. If you can play with a purpose you will learn more, you will learn it faster, and you will retain it longer. Play unlocks the magic of the imagination; once a student learns how to utilize the creative state, amazing discoveries are possible.
