Joe Skerik began playing viola at the age of 11. Prior to the viola, he played the violin. His primary teachers were Allison Dobbs, Renee Skerik, David Holland, and Jeffrey Irvine. He has participated in the Interlochen Arts Camp, Green Lake Chamber Music Festival, Perlman Music Program, Castleman Quartet Program, and the New York String Orchestra Seminar. He has performed in masterclasses for Yitzhak Schotten, Elias Goldstein, Paul Colletti, Heidi Castleman, Hsin-Yun Huang, David Holland, and Lynne Ramsey. He has performed chamber music with Andres Cardenes, Shannon Lee, Sarah Daneshpour, and Shmuel Ashkenasi. Joe was a 2017 YoungArts Merit violist, and was awarded joint second place in the 2018 American Viola Society Competition. He is a sophomore at the Cleveland Institute of Music, where he studies with Jeffrey Irvine.
