This program puts aspiring artists in the best possible position to apply to, and prepare for the rigors of, college art programs. If you are considering a visual arts major in college and want to produce a strong portfolio that will be competitive at your top choice schools, this program is for you. In addition to producing important pieces for your portfolio, students in this program also learn how to select the schools that best fit their wants and needs. Students learn how to photograph artwork, write an artist statement, organize notes and research on schools, and how to identify and apply for scholarships and financial aid. Students have the opportunity to speak with art college representatives. The goal of this program is to put students in the best position possible for applying to colleges as well as being prepared for the rigors of a college art program.

Resources and Facilities

The visual arts department is housed in the state-of-the-art Dow Center for Visual Arts. Its features include separate studio space for ceramics, sculpture, painting, drawing, metals, digital arts, photography, printmaking, and fibers. The most impressive facility of its kind at any secondary school in the country, it also includes a professional gallery space for exhibitions of work by students, faculty, and visiting artists.
