The one-week musical theatre audition intensive is designed for high school students who are planning to audition for musical theatre programs at top schools and want to have successful audition experiences.
Students work with a team of professionals and university instructors, learning how to prepare for the audition and application process. Instructors have extensive professional experience and teach at high-profile theatre training programs.
Focus will be on the preparation of audition songs, developing movement and dance skills and identifying higher level training programs to fit personal goals and experience levels. The session culminates with a showcase performance of student work.
During this one-week program, students participate in the following classes and sessions:
- Acting technique
- Dance technique
- Vocal ensemble studio work
- Audition preparation
Video files #1 and #2: Two 16-bar excerpts from two different songs from standard musical theatre repertoire with piano accompaniment. One excerpt should be from an up-tempo song, and one should come from a ballad or slow song.
Video file #3 (optional): Applicants with dance experience should include a one-minute sample of movement or dance representative of skill level (include pirouettes, jumps and any type of acrobatic movements).
Interlochen is also home to the Arts Academy boarding high school, which offers a theatre major for grades 9-12, as well as a post-graduate year.
