Are you planning to apply to university or conservatory musical theatre programs? This one-week program is a great opportunity for you to learn about the application process and how to have a successful audition experience.
During your week here, you will work with a team of professionals and university instructors on how to successfully prepare for your auditions. Instructors have extensive experience and are working professionals or teach at high-profile theatre training programs.
The focus of this program is twofold. You will work to prepare audition songs and develop movement and dance skills. We will also help you identify the right college and higher level training programs to fit your personal goals and experience level. Classes and sessions include:
- Acting the song
- Dance technique
- Vocal ensemble studio work
- Audition preparation
The session culminates with a showcase performance of student work.
Video files #1 and #2: Two 16-bar excerpts from two different songs from standard musical theatre repertoire with piano accompaniment. One excerpt should be from an up-tempo song, and one should come from a ballad or slow song.
Video file #3 (optional): Applicants with dance experience should include a one-minute sample of movement or dance representative of skill level (include pirouettes, jumps and any type of acrobatic movements).
Interlochen is also home to the Arts Academy boarding high school, which offers a theatre major for grades 9-12, as well as a post-graduate year.
