The junior wind and percussion program is a great summer opportunity for musicians in grades 3-6. Guided by teachers who specialize in working with young musicians, you will develop your beginning instrumental musicianship. You will also have the amazing experience of living and learning with other kids from all over the world.
During your two weeks here, you will have a variety of rehearsals, classes, and activities. The repertoire is carefully selected to meet the needs of both individual students and possible small ensemble activities (view the 2016 repertoire). Our goal is to create an environment where students of all skill levels can gain a sense of accomplishment and experience the joy of instrumental development. Features of this program include:
- Daily two-hour rehearsals, with instrument specialists.
- In musicianship class, you'll develop a deeper understanding of written music (in treble and bass clefs), rhythm, meter, and scales.
- Participation in the chorus will help you develop your aural skills.
- Round out your experience with one additional elective class. Your elective can be in music, or you can take the opportunity to study another art form, such as ballet, visual arts, acting, or creative writing. See elective options.
These two-week sessions are not geared toward public performance, but rather to the process of student development. Students are welcome to attend multiple sessions (a discount is offered). Students who attend for four weeks may take private lessons for an additional fee (private lessons are not available for students attending two weeks).
This program does not require an audition. It enrolls on a first-come, first-served basis, so your early application is advised.
