Singers, experience the joy of singing in an ensemble! Whether you have been in a choir before or not, this is your chance to join with others to rehearse, practice, and sing! The Junior Choir, whose repertoire is carefully selected to meet both the needs of individual students and the full group, provides an environment where students of all skill levels are able to learn, gain a sense of accomplishment, and perform (view 2019 repertoire).

Features of this program include:

  • Daily one-hour rehearsals start with an organized warm-up, and focus on basic singing skills, sight reading, and beginning vocal pedagogy.
  • Students receive personalized instruction from faculty during group voice classes.
  • In musicianship class, students develop skills in sight-reading, rhythmic reading, solfege, and improvisation.
  • You may choose two electives in music or in another art form, such as ballet, visual arts, acting, or creative writing.

Each two-week session culminates with a public performance. Students are welcome to attend multiple sessions (a discount is offered).

Additional Opportunities

Interlochen offers an honors recital competition for the junior division. Winners perform in an honors recital, which is held every other week. The competition requires a separate audition. Honors recital details
