High School Piano Institute (one week)

If you are a serious student pianist with collegiate and professional aspirations, the piano institute is an excellent opportunity to spend a week in master classes and private lessons.

Below are examples of past instructors; 2017 faculty will be announced in the spring.

Program length: 1 week
Program dates:
June 17, 2017 to June 23, 2017
Tuition: $1,190
Age range: Students currently in grades 9-12

During your time here, you will participate in master classes and attend inspiring faculty and guest artist performances. You'll also have classes in historic performance styles, piano technique, memorization, and movement with music. Performance opportunities include student recitals and a possible invitation to perform live on Interlochen Public Radio.

Audition Requirements

  • A substantial work of the student's choice. Example: Prelude & fugue, suite, ballade, scherzo, etc.
  • Any etude by Chopin, Moszkowski, Liszt, Rachmaninoff, or Debussy.
  • A movement from a sonata by Haydn, Mozart, or Beethoven.

Students who wish to be considered for the concerto reading should include a movement from one of the concerti in lieu of the sonata.

Additional Opportunities

Jazz pianists are invited to apply for the three-week high school jazz summer program.
