If you are a serious oboist with professional aspirations, the advanced oboe institute is a great opportunity to spend a week of intensive study with internationally known performers and teachers.
Below are examples of past instructors; new faculty will be announced in spring.
The goal of this program is to prepare you for college and conservatory auditions and a professional career. The advanced oboe institute brings together faculty members and guest artists from major orchestras and music schools, creating a setting that is instructive and inspiring.
As an advanced oboe institute student, you will have the opportunity to observe and perform in master classes with our renowned faculty. Classes will focus on solo repertoire, etudes and orchestral works, and you will be coached on repertoire you have prepared in advanced (a pianist will be provided for repertoire requiring accompaniment). Special attention will be given to help you learn how to prepare for college and conservatory auditions.
You will have private lessons, reed making instruction, and instrument maintenance assistance. You will also have the opportunity to attend performances by faculty members and distinguished guest artists of the program.
- Audio or video files #1 and #2: Two works of contrasting style
- Audio or video file #3: One orchestral excerpt
Applicants who submit an audition to the advanced oboe institute may be considered for the oboe institute.
Students interested in a multi-week, ensemble-based program are invited to also apply to the high school summer orchestra and wind symphony program, which begins immediately after this one-week institute.
Interlochen is also home to the Arts Academy boarding high school, which offers an oboe performance major for grades 9-12, as well as a post-graduate year.
