Overview

The singer/songwriter seminar provides an opportunity for students to explore their creativity and to hone their performance skills under the direction of professional performing musicians.

Program Details

Develop performance skills on the guitar or piano, and voice. As students work on their songwriting skills they will create a portfolio of ideas and lyrics for new songs.

Class work will focus on the integration of lyrics, music, and performance for creating effective communication with an audience. Group sessions will include analysis of pre-existing and new compositions as a means to discovery. Performance opportunities will include informal "coffee house" style and concert performance.

Audition Requirements

  • Video-record a personal performance of an original composition onto a DVD.
  • Prepare a written copy of the lyrics and basic information about the composition (dates, co-writers).
  • Submit the materials with your application. Label the DVD with the applicant’s full name, H.S. division and "Singer-Songwriter."
