Vassilena Serafimova is the first Bulgarian percussionist who has been awarded with the Second prize of ARD International Music Competition in Munich (2007) and the First Prize of the Fifth World Marimba Competition in Stuttgart (2008). She won the Grand prix of Festival Musical d’Automne de Jeunes Interprètes, the First prize of the Music Critics in the 18th International Festival of Central Europe as well as the Young Musician of the Year Award in Bulgaria. Vassilena has studied at CNSMD in Paris, The Juilliard School in New York (exchange program) and in the percussion class of her father in Bulgaria.
Vassilena has been invited to perform solo recitals and to give master classes in Europe, Central and North America, and Asia, and made her debut in Carnegie Hall in New York in the 2014 Musical Olympus Festival. A year later her performance with Thomas Enhco during the French musical ceremony Les Victoires de la Musique marked the appearance of the marimba for the first time in the history of the event.
Vassilena endorses Adams Alpha Series Marimbas and the Avedis Zildjian Company and has created her own mallet series with Vibrawell France. In 2012 she recorded her first CD - Percussion - under the Integral Classic Label. In 2016 Vassilena Serafimova and Thomas Enhco recorded their first duo album Funambules under the famous label Deutsche Grammophon.
