A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Mr. Drake began his professional career as fourth trumpet with the Rochester Philharmonic winning the job as a sophomore while a student at Eastman. Three years later, he advanced to third trumpet and began a teaching career in the esteemed Preparatory Division at the Eastman School. In 1985, Mr. Drake was offered the position of Principal Trumpet of the North Carolina Symphony, a position he held for two years when he auditioned for and was offered the Assistant Trumpet position with the Saint Louis Symphony. Since then, he has held the titles of Acting Principal (2010-2012) and his current position of Associate Principal. Mr. Drake is an active participant in the St. Louis Symphony's Youth Orchestra Program regularly coaching the trumpet and brass sections. Mr. Drake's recorded work with the St. Louis Symphony may be heard on the Sony/BMG, EMI, Nonesuch, Naxos, New World, Pentatone, and Arch Media labels.
