Phillip Roberts is a composer and performer with a penchant for music theory. The musical heritage of his home state, Virginia, lends an air of Americana to much of Roberts' music. His preference for driving rhythms and soulful harmonies comes from his current residency in Cincinnati, the birthplace of funk.
During the school year, Roberts is an adjunct instructor of music theory at Miami University and faculty at Peraza Strings Music Workshop. He has fulfilled commissions from such ensembles as Close Encounters with Music, the Luray Singers, and the University of Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. As a pianist and organist, Roberts is an active recitalist, championing not only his own works but those of his fellow composers. He is a pianist for the Cincinnati Ballet, and has toured the East Coast and United Kingdom as an accompanist for vocalists and choirs.
