Laura Caviani's recordings have received such praise as "piano trio jazz of the highest order" from Downbeat contributor Bob Protzman, "stunningly fresh" from JazzTimes, and "in a word, outstanding" from the Minneapolis Star Tribune. She has toured and recorded with Karrin Allyson, and has performed with such luminaries as Stan Getz, Dave Liebman, and Toots Thielemans. Caviani has also recorded with many Minneapolis–based artists, including JazzMN, Lucia Newell, Prudence Johnson, Connie Evingson, and Joan Griffith. In 2010, Caviani was a finalist in the International Jazz Piano Competition in Jacksonville, FL.

As composer, Ms. Caviani has written for Pete Whitman's Xtet, whose debut CD received a 4 star review from Downbeat. Commissions include works for the Kansas City and Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestras. She has composed and arranged numerous charts for jazz ensemble.

Caviani is on faculty at both Carleton and St. Olaf Colleges in Minnesota.
