Principal Dancer/ Ballet Master for Dayton Ballet
Justin Michael Koertgen danced for the Dayton Ballet for twelve seasons. Born and raised in Michigan, Justin attended the Interlochen Arts Academy from 1994 -2000. Highlights from his time with The Dayton Ballet include the roles of "Dracula" in Dayton Ballet's Dracula, "Laertes" in Stephen Mills' Hamlet and featured roles in Mills' Red Roses and Five Flights Up, as well as Christopher Fleming's Janis & Joe. Mr. Koertgen has enjoyed several other roles including: "Romeo" and "Tybalt" in Septime Webre's Romeo & Juliet, "Cavalier" in The Nutcracker, "Don José" in Webre's Carmen, and the title role in Christopher Fleming's The Who's Tommy. Justin Has taught all over the country including Huntsville Ballet, Mercyhurst University, City Center Ballet, and Interlochen Center for the Arts. He has worked as the Ballet Master and the Rehearsal assistant for the Dayton Ballet and has taught for the company and school for the past five years. Justin's choreography has been showcased at Interlochen Center for the arts, Mercyhurst University, and the Dayton Ballet. This fall he was a member of BalletFleming in Philadelphia. Justin couldn't be more thrilled to return home to teach at Interlochen Center for the arts.
