About Dwight

Dwight Parry is the principal oboist of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Assistant Professor of Oboe at Bowling Green State University, and Adjunct Professor of Oboe at the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.

He is a versatile and passionate soloist with a background in jazz and Baroque interpretation. As an avid chamber musician and an advocate for new music, he performs and teaches around the world. In November of 2022, Parry gave the U.S. premiere of Carl Vine's Oboe Concerto with the Ohio Valley Symphony. In recent seasons, he performed the Martinů Oboe Concerto with the CCM Chamber Orchestra and the Strauss Oboe Concerto with the Prague Summer Nights Festival in the Czech Republic. He has been a soloist with the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra for JS Bach's Brandenburg Concertos 1&2. After collaborating with Hansjörg Schellenberger in Mexico City, he was invited to Tokyo to judge the 2018 and 2023 Sony International Oboe Competitions. In May of 2022, Parry premiered an oboe concerto, Les Belles Heures, by Guillaume Connesson, commissioned by the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra.

Originally from Southern California, he found his passion for music early on through piano, voice, and saxophone, then learned the oboe late in high school. He went on to study at Cleveland Institute of Music with John Mack and at University of Southern California with Allan Vogel and David Weiss, who also taught him to surf!

My role is to help each student realize their artistic potential and achieve their individual goals in an environment that is safe, inclusive, encouraging and honest.
