Each summer, some of Interlochen's most accomplished young musicians compete for a chance to perform as a soloist with one of Interlochen's large ensembles. This is part one of a two part series, featuring the 2011 concerto competition.  

Paula Robinson, an American flutist who has appeared as a soloist with the New York Philharmonic and co-founded the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, was welcomed as a guest instructor at the Summer Flute Institute at Interlochen Arts Camp 2012.

Ken Ludwig, two-time Olivier Award-winning playwright, spent two weeks with students from the High School Repertory Theatre Production summer program as they worked on a production of his play Midsummer/Jersey.

As a five year-old, Angelique saw a live performance of a cello ensemble in Haiti - and she was hooked. She started her musical career soon after on a toy cello her parents made out of cardboard. "A Prairie Home Companion” with Garrison Keillor, broadcasted live on NPR, was a night of music, comedy, and talent. The event showcased two Interlochen Arts Academy students who performed vocal and trumpet pieces. The sold-out concert highlighted Garrison Keillor’s creative and comical style along with several musical acts.

The 2012 Interlochen Summer Institute was held the week of June 16-22. The Interlochen Institute program is a one-week intensive session that provides opportunities for highly motivated students to work with world-class faculty in many arts disciplines. Students participate in daily master classes, private lessons and student and faculty performances. The Institute gives students a chance to work in a focused environment and provides a glimpse of the type of curriculum at the Arts Camp and Arts Academy. Students can choose to attend a one-week Institute as a standalone program or continue on to a multi-week program at Interlochen Arts Camp.
