The Frederick Fennell Scholars Program offers talented high school musicians the opportunity to earn a scholarship toward intensive study at Interlochen Arts Camp. Awards are based on the strength of the student’s experience and audition.
Musicians who excel in woodwinds, brass or percussion are eligible to earn up to a full scholarship to America’s premier band program at Interlochen Arts Camp. The Fennell Scholarship is named after Interlochen alumnus Frederick Fennell, the world’s most distinguished wind conductor and a life-long friend of Interlochen.
Eligibility
The Fennell Scholarship is available to:
- Applicants currently eligible for the high school division
- Applicants auditioning on brass, woodwinds or percussion for the six-week wind ensemble program
How to apply:
Choose one movement from a piece listed in the audition repertoire or choose a piece of comparable difficulty. Selections of contrasting style and piano accompaniment when appropriate are recommended. Percussionists should demonstrate skills on snare drum, mallet instruments and timpani.
- Choose one movement from an additional piece
- Prepare one major and one minor scale
- Record all pieces and scales. Helpful tip: place the microphone about six feet from your instrument.
Students applying for Fennell Scholarships are encouraged to submit a video audition on Interlochen.slideroom.com (preferred) or on DVD. It must be submitted online or postmarked by February 1, 2012.
Students who apply for the Fennell Scholarship may also apply for the Emerson Scholarship and may seek other financial aid by completing the Financial Information portion of the Application for Admission. Scholarship recipients will be announced no later than April 1, 2012.
