Overview
The Interlochen Junior Piano Program is an intensive and fun way to study piano in the summer. Campers will develop piano skills through private lessons, interactive group activities and master classes that create a sense of camaraderie among the junior piano majors.
Program Details
Private lessons are given by distinguished faculty members in two half-period sessions each week. On days when students are not in lessons they have practice time with the guidance of teaching assistants. Piano skills class provides a small group setting for studying technique, keyboard theory, ensemble playing and sight reading. Junior piano master class meets daily and includes such activities as a repertoire class, a group lesson, a studio class, a performance class or a master class with our faculty and guest artists. Students will also choose two electives.
Honors Recital Competition
Interlochen offers an Honors Recital competition for advanced junior instrumentalists. Winners of the competition will perform at a special Honors Recital scheduled at the end of each two-week session.
To audition for the Honors Recital, musicians must submit an audition DVD no later than May 7, 2010 (postmark date for all sessions). Those selected to perform at an honors recital will be notified in writing by June 11.
