Overview
Junior Band is for wind and percussion musicians between the 3rd and 6th grades. The faculty is chosen from professionals who specialize in developing a new musician's skills; they guide the developing instrumentalists and tap each child's potential. Basic ensemble skills as well as individual instrumental pedagogy are emphasized. Repertoire is chosen with sensitivity to the needs of the individual camper and that of the full group. Students will participate in a final performance at the end of each two week session.
Program Details
Band rehearsals are two hours long and include an organized warm-up and sectionals. A Musicianship elective develops an understanding of written music (in treble and bass clefs), rhythm, meter and scales. Chorus is required of all band participants to develop aural skills. Students will choose one additional elective. Due to the two-week length of the junior music programs, private lessons are not offered to students who are attending only one session. Private lessons are available for an additional fee to any junior student who is attending camp for at least four weeks.
