Overview

This course is designed for students with intermediate to advanced skills in drawing and painting. Assignments will be composed of a mixture of work from observation (object, landscape, portrait) and individual projects. Working mostly on primed and unprimed papers, materials will include pencils, charcoal, ink, acrylic, watercolor and mixed media. Short lectures and presentations will cover art history and contemporary trends. Group and individual critiques will help students source their own ideas and inspirations, creating a focus on personal expression. Students will be required to finish projects outside of regular class time in "open studio" sessions or once they return home because of the short duration of the Institute.

Prerequisites

Students must have prior experience in drawing and painting and must bring documentation of finished works. Documentation can be in the form of original work, photos or digital images of work. Please exercise care in transporting original works. It is also recommended that students bring their sketchbooks to show the instructor along with their portfolios.
